Star Wars: Squadrons has been announced, it has a story, support for VR and cross-play

The new Star Wars game arrives in October, directed by Electronic Arts studio Motive, and will focus on pilot battles.

Star Wars: Squadrons have been officially announced and just as everything suggested before the announcement, it will be a Star Wars game focused on flying and space pilot battles. Players will be able to sit in cult aircraft such as X-wings and TIE fighters and fight others in a 5v5 multiplayer format. The game will be performed from a first-person perspective.

But it won’t just be a multiplayer title. There will also be a single-player campaign whose story takes place towards the end of the galactic war. We will visit some hitherto unseen locations such as Yavin Prime, we will have pre-battle briefings and we will upgrade our aircraft.

As for the multiplayer upgrade, this time EA says that everything will be transparent - everything in the game will be unlocked by playing and everything will be available from day one. In translation, there should be no microtransactions and affair like with Battlefront 2. But we’ll only see that on October 2nd when the game comes out.

By the way, EA is now going cross-play so players from all platforms will be able to play together or against each other. These include PS4, Xbox One, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Origin. Also, the game will have full virtual reality support on PC and PlayStation VR, and players with VR will also be able to participate in battles with all other players.
